Matching couples, modern hanbok and a feeling that anything goes: there’s huge creativity and confidence in the street fashion you see around Seoul.
It’s all about effortless cool and the freedom to develop whatever look you like, without prejudice.
Carl Jones has spent the past three years living in Seoul and documenting street style in the South Korean capital for Sol-Sol Street, his longest-running photo project to date. He often shoots around his local neighborhood of Hongdae as well as during March and October Fashion Weeks, when a bevvy of beautiful, impeccably dressed people loiter outside the shows at the late Zaha Hadid’s Dongdaemun Design Plaza, waiting to be snapped.
‘The number of people dressing up and peacocking outside the entrance waiting for their photo to be taken can reach well into the hundreds on any day,’ Jones says.
